Mr. President of the European Council,
Mrs. President of the European Commission,
We, citizens of Germany and other European countries, are deeply concerned about the large influx of refugees into Europe. While Europe has a humanitarian obligation to help people fleeing persecution and conflict, current levels of immigration pose serious challenges to our societies and economies.
According to the latest report from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the number of refugees will exceed 117 million in 2023.
This massive influx of refugees puts significant pressure on our resources and social services. Schools, hospitals and the social welfare system are overwhelmed, and competition for housing and jobs is increasing. Many cities and towns also face cultural and social challenges associated with integrating large numbers of new arrivals.
Moreover, the influx of refugees poses serious security challenges. Terrorist organizations and criminal groups use migration routes to enter Europe, leading to an increased risk of terrorism and organized crime.
We demand that the European Union take urgent action to limit the flow of refugees into Europe. This can be achieved by:
1. Strengthening the external borders of European countries
2. Reducing the number of legal immigration routes
3. Increased assistance to countries of origin of refugees
4. Facilitating the return of refugees who have received asylum to their homeland when the situation improves
We understand that the refugee problem is complex, but inaction is unacceptable. The European Union must act decisively and quickly to protect our citizens and preserve our identity and values.
We ask that the European Union take measures to limit the flow of refugees into Europe in accordance with the proposals outlined above.
